A former carer who stole from an elderly man at his care facility has narrowly avoided jail. Susan Hutton, 54, stole from former Royal Marine, Patrick Armstrong, 83, when he lived in an extra care scheme in Gravesend. Hutton stole about £80 from Mr Armstrong after she entered his flat while he was ill in hospital, last August.

A Nigerian woman used false identification documents to get work with vulnerable adults and children in care homes and a school in Gloucestershire, a judge heard on Tuesday. Fatou Johnson, 37, of Nutfield Gardens, Ilford, Essex, pleaded guilty at Gloucester Crown Court to two charges of possession of false documents – a French passport and a National Insurance card – and fraudulently using them to obtain a Disclosure and Barring service (DBS) certificate to get work. Nigerian-born Johnson was arrested at a school in Tewkesbury when her offences were detected, the court heard. Judge Michael Cullum told her it was ‘exceptionally serious’ to use counterfeit documents to deceive the DBS ‘whose job is to safeguard the vulnerable.’ But after being told that despite working illegally Johnson had an ‘exemplary work record’ with ‘exceptionally positive references’ from those that had employed her he allowed her to walk free from court. Johnson was sentenced to six months jail suspended for a year and ordered to attend ten rehabilitation activity sessions.

Tributes have been paid to a former Housing Executive Derry District Manager who went on to become Chief Executive after he passed away recently. Paddy McIntyre was involved in developing and allocating social housing in the Carnhill and Galliagh areas during the early days of the Housing Executive back in the 1970s.
