The Chief Executive of a charity leading on the provision of hospice care across Essex has been appointed. Steve Smith from Leigh on Sea is now CEO of Havens Hospices, which includes Fair Havens Hospice covering Southend, Castle Point and Rochford, but also Little Havens Hospice for children in Essex and The J’s, a community hospice service across the county. The 46-year-old has been working for the organisation since October 2015 as Director of Facilities, but also New Fair Havens Hospice Project Director as the driving force behind getting the new facility built in Prittlewell, which is due for completion next spring.

Thenue Housing has unveiled who is to be its next head of property services. Eleanor Derbyshire has been appointed succeeding Beth Reilly who retires at the end of August after 28 years.

Susan Hickey, chief financial officer at Peabody, will leave the organisation in early 2020, the housing association has announced.

Conservative MP Jo Churchill has been named the new minister for primary care as part of Boris Johnson’s recent cabinet reshuffle. As parliamentary under-secretary of state at the Department of Health and Social Care, Ms Churchill’s remit will also cover prevention and public health. Additionally, Nadine Dorries has been confirmed as health minister responsible for mental health, suicide prevention and patient safety.
