Cedric Boston is the new Chief Executive of Leeds-based BME housing association Unity Homes and Enterprise, which manages homes in Holbeck, Beeston and Hunslet. He had served as Unity’s Interim Chief Executive since December 2020, replacing Ali Akbor OBE who was appointed to the Grenfell Tower Inquiry Panel. Mr Boston has over 30 years of senior level experience in social housing. He is a former Chief Executive of Arhag, a London BME association dedicated to improving the life chances of migrants and refugees. Mr Boston was also Director of Housing Services at Lambeth Living with responsibility for the provision of operational services to 65,000 people. Unity was set up in 1987 to meet the housing needs of BME people in Leeds.

Council officers are normally happiest working away in the background, leaving councillors to stand in the glare of publicity. Sue Wald, who has just retired as corporate director for adults’ social services, is no different – but she has also been leading the council’s effort in two of the biggest issues to face local government for years, one slowly growing, and one a sudden explosion. Sue’s department is responsible for funding and providing social care for the elderly and otherwise vulnerable adults – those with physical and learning difficulties. The demands on councils across the country have been ever-growing and taking increasingly large parts of budgets – so much so that the prime minister announced a 1.25 per cent increase in National Insurance contributions for every working person to try and head off what is becoming something of a crisis.

Consultancy Knight Frank has bolstered its seniors housing team by adding three senior surveyors. Chris Barnes, who joins from Cushman & Wakefield, and Katarina Szinekova, who has been recruited from CBRE, will both focus on advisory instructions – providing valuations and consultancy advice that will help towards transactional work. Ty Turner, who has joined from Savills, will work with the wider team on Knight Frank’s capital markets instructions, including acquisitions, land agency and funding transactions. Tom Scaife, head of seniors housing at Knight Frank, said: ‘We have seen market activity significantly increase in recent months, and our latest research suggests 2021 will be a record year for investment.

Atrium Homes has announced the retirement of its long-standing chief executive, Stephen Black. Stephen, who has been chief executive since July 2000, has indicated he will leave at the end of the year.

Birmingham-based housing association Longhurst Group has appointed Jenny Brown as its new chair as it embarks on a five-year programme to build 3,750 homes, Brown, who has been a board member at the £152 million -turnover organisation since 2019, will succeed outgoing chair Bob Wilson early next year.

Specialist care and support provider Envivo Group has appointed a new chief executive to lead the group’s strategic vision. Tim Davies has over 25 years’ experience leading organisations in the healthcare sector. A qualified pharmacist, he is the former managing director of Co-op Health and was previously the chief operating officer at Well Pharmacy and managing director of Assura Pharmacy.
